books are expensive.

So… freaking… tired.

I had a long day today. My shift was 11-7, but I managed to work about 8 and a half hours. Nearly all of it was spent in the back room behind the aquariums, throwing shit away, cleaning up, and hefting 50 lb bags of salt and gravel around. On the plus side, its looking not too bad back there, and I think it only needs a couple more hours of work to be damn near usable. Of course, thats not including all those stupid forms and paperwork that somehow have managed to turn my department’s storage (and what should be a hospital area) into the worlds most dangerous file-cabinet-without-the-cabinet.

There’s all kinds of weird shit back there too. I was throwing away shattered heaters, pumps split down the middle, random bits of PVC piping, old notes written on yellow tags with such useful information as “this one works, just needs new impeller” in a box of nasty, dirty powerheads.

Expose is fun. I find myself opening a bunch of random windows just so I can watch them flitter all about the screen.

In other news…

Savannah and I are officially broken up now. She called me yesterday for the first time since a few weeks before christmas. I just told her its not working. I wouldn’t mind being her friend, but to expect more than that is too much. I was kinda bummed. Not because I didn’t want to do it, cuz I did. I don’t know why I was. Maybe I just had some hope that things would have worked out better. Oh well.

Really, I was over it about a month and a half ago.

So if you know of any really nice, single ~20 [+-]2 year olds…. ;o)

Meanwhile, I go bed.

why the hell am I up so early?

Let’s hear it for getting iTunes encoding ogg properly! I’m now ripping my CD’s in full 160 kbps yummy ogg goodness! Fiona Apple sounds even better when she’s open source!

So if I haven’t mentioned it yet, Melinda got me a gift certificate to Fry’s so I got a mouse, a mousepad, and a gamepad! And thank g0d`. Cuz as nice as it is for laptops to have a builtin trackpad (as opposed to a nipple-thing) it… well.. sucks. I’ve noticed I have this unfortunate habit of randomly tapping my thumb (sometimes even while typing) on the area right in front of the spacebar on all keyboards. That unfortunately leads to many a fscked up sentence or random application switching.

So yeah. If I haven’t mentioned that I like my mouse, I… well… do.

Supercat

So I went to bed last night, dreading the next few days. I was tired, sad, and afraid I’d find him the next day on the street. As you can see, not overly optimistic. Tyler came in, and curled up next to me while I pet him… he was actually purring. I finally turned out the lights, and went to sleep.

Tyler woke me up every hour or so, wailing at either the front door or the patio, or sometimes my window. Each time I got up and looked around, I couldn’t find him. At one point in the night I thought about leaving the front door open and locking Tyler in Tres’ room. I was about to actually do that when I fell asleep again. Then I woke up. Tyler was whining by the front door, but then I heard another whine from my window.

It was all quite dramatic. I knew that whine. I ran to the front door, and called his name and sure enough he came out from the bushes and into the open front door, meowing.

And what was the first thing he did? He went straight to his litter box.

Kal’El

Kal’El is gone.

We don’t know when, but he must have gotten out. It had to have been after midnight.

We all joke about how dumb he is… how he’d make such a terrible hunter… how he’d never make it out on his own. And now thats exactly where he is.

It all seemed so funny yesterday.

I could post the entire song…

Can I mix in with your affairs

Share a smoke, make a joke;

Grasp and reach for a leg of hope.

Words to memorize; words hypnotize

Words make my mouth excercise

Word all failed the magic prize;

nothin I can say when I’m in your thighs.

Oh my, my, my, my mother;

I would love to love you lover.

The city is restless, its ready to pounce;

Here in your bedroom ounce for ounce

Yay, its New Years Eve!

I love my ibook. As I’ve told a few people, I haven’t used my main computer but 3 times.

Once to get my router to work with Apple’s Airport. The second time to get my linux machine to accept incoming logins from other computers. And then tonight to play Age of Wonders (which only half counts, since I was playing with my ibook simultaneously. And thanks to Melinda, I gota new mouse, gamepad and mousepad for it, so now I can right click and play Tony Hawk 4! If you’ve ever blown off macs before you seriously need to stop and take another look. Mac OSX blows my mind. For gods sake, installing a program involves dragging an icon from one folder to another! The only step up would be NeXT’s “fat” binaries which would run on 4 different architectures… which probably has something to do with the fact that OSX heavily draws on NeXT.

Angela, where for id j00? Are you coming? It’s gonna be the lamest uncoolest party in town! j00 gotta be there!

I’ve been having fun hanging out with Tim lately. He’s a fun guy.

Chris won’t be there. Sad Day. When shall he learn that Phoenix blowz? Ah well.

Kyle makes me wonder sometimes. When he first moved in, he was going to be getting a job fairly soon, and start paying rent. Maybe not an equal share, but a significant portion. Now, two months later, he’s put up about $100 total, and…. well… nevermind.

Mollie told me today that she thinks she’ll want to move back to Chicago. Not anytime soon… not even in the next year or two she says. But still, it makes me want to cry. I’m not hurt, or offended… but… well… it sucks. When all of my family started moving away from SD, it was lame, but it was ok. Now, it looks like most of them won’t even be in San Diego at the end of summer, I just don’t know anymore. I mean, this is my roommate we’re talking about. The one who took those crazy first steps with me out into the great big yonder. My original partner, with whom I faced down my entire family and said, “no, moving out isn’t a bad idea, in fact, its the best idea”. I honestly have no idea what I would have done without her this past year and a half, especially the past year. For the longest time, it seemed like all we had was each other, at least to me. She was someone I could depend on. And nothing personal, but Tres and Kyle don’t quite fit that shoe. They’re great guys, but I can’t count on them to make me take tylenol when I’m burning a fever and a migraine, half passed out on the floor. Or to bring me lunch when I’m literally feeling sick to my stomach cuz I’m hungry. Or when I’ve just gotten my second speeding ticket in two days, and am crying my eyes out, swearing that I’ll be the cause of us living on the streets yet, just you wait. Even though she has Thorin now, and needs me much less, I still wonder how she’d do without me completely. Would she do alright? I’m not so self-absorbed to think that I make a huge difference in her life, but I know I’ve made some. I was the one who got her to a doctor, for better or for worse when she was passing out. And the one who called in sick for her on more than one occasion. And… well… there’s not enough space on Diaryland’s hard drives for me to document our entire history… suffice it to say that her moving back to Chicago would leave nothing less than a gaping hole in my life, a life which already has its share of holes.

Merry New Years Eve Eve Eve

I’ve spent the past couple nights hanging out with Timmmmmmay since he’s spending the week with us… there’s been a couple really weird things in the past couple days… yeah… weird.

So there’s this show, late at night on Fox. It’s called “Cheaters”. Basically, its a show about a detective agency. This agency is contacted by people who believe that their Significant Others are cheating on them. The Detectives then proceed to follow and video tape the ‘suspect’. They then present the evidence to the person who contacted them, and offer to help confront the Cheater. This usually ends in lots of swearing and flying fists. Pretty jacked up show, all in all.

Then there’s this other show, Wildboyz, done by two of the guys from Jackass. Yeah, its Jackass with animals. These guys do stupid stuff in front of dangerous animals. One of them hit himself in the forehead with a boomerang.

Samurai Jack is another very… odd… show. Kyle seems to swear by it, but I can’t quite see the concept of it myself. It seems to me to be the most random show I’ve seen in a very, very long time.

Angela came over a couple nights ago, that was pretty fun. Hopefully she’ll be coming back for New Years Eve.

So I’ve tweaked my Mac OSX install a bit, and done some fun networking stuff. For example, I connected to my Linux computer in my bedroom wirelessly and ran my email program, Evolution, to check my email. It was a beautiful thing. Then I set it up so that I can do the same thing from my laptop, anywhere I have an internet connection. I could have always done this in linux, but Mac OSX makes it so incredibly stupid easy.

I’ve also installed TigerLaunch, Exult, FetchArt and iLyric, Camino, Mozilla, and Firebird (in addition to the already installed Safari … I removed MacIE, it was the first thing I did.), X-Chat Aqua, and, of course, XCode.
